Introducing Islamic Azad University

The Islamic Azad University was established in the year 1361 Persian calendar (1982 AD), after consultation with many intellectuals and university professors. The University`s Entrance exam was held in the same year with more than 32 thousand participants. Out of which, 3 thousand students were accepted in various subjects, including civil engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, as well as physics, mathematics, chemistry, metal industries, textile, and other related fields. Like other higher education institutions in Iran, Islamic Azad University is approved and ratified by the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution. The University has an independent system for granting degrees and certificates, receiving direct approval and authentication from the University`s president.

Islamic Azad University is the largest brick-and-mortar university in the world and the 3th university in the world in terms of the number of students. This university has five million graduates at different levels, 10 million square meters of indoor educational space and 70 thousand full-time and part-time faculty members and lecturers.

In engineering subjects, specifically mechanical engineering, Energy Engineering, Civil and Mineral Engineering, the University ranked 51-75, in other subjects like Electric and Electronic Engineering, Materials science, and Biotechnology, the University ranked top 500 worldwide. The University has ranked between 301 to 400 in Computer Engineering and below 150(110-150) in Chemical Engineering.
