8 Steps to Study in Iran

Usually, students face lots of ambiguities when they decide to study in other countries. Here, we provide a step-by-step guide that help you to know required steps from finding a suitable program in Iran to enrolling at the university.

The application process in Iran is different than the application process that you will see in other countries. There are a lot of things that you need to consider when you are applying to universities in Iran, and we will give you an overview of each of them in following.

1) Finding a Study Program

The first step is finding a suitable program for yourself based on your interests and background. Since there are many universities and programs in Iran, you don’t have any problem to find your favorite program. But, there are lots of universities in Iran that provide diverse courses, then we suggest you to start your search as soon as possible and take information from several Iranian universities to make a best decision. We believe, this step is the most important step in admission process and you have to spend enough time to gather all required information before decision making. To select your program, you need information about featured universities, their ranking, available courses, tuition fees, admission requirements, admission deadlines, living cost and so on.

You can take information form universities’ website, feedback from other students in blogs and social media and universities’ international office, however we suggest you to contact us to take information for free. After gathering information from all your alternatives, you must select one or several programs for applying and go to the next step.

2) Preparing All Admission Requirements

In this step, you have decided about the university and study program that you want to apply, then you must prepare admission requirements. Admission requirements are different depending on the university and the type of program, so you need enough and up-to-date information and you must prepare these documents early enough to avoid missing your opportunity.

Usually, following documents are required for applying to Iranian universities:

• Personal Photo
• Image from First Page of Passport
• Image of Bachelor Certificate and Transcript for Prospect Students in Master Study
• Also, Image of Master Certificate and Transcript for Prospect Students in PhD Study
• Admission Form

Also, following documents increase the chance of admission:

• Recommendation from Educators
• Proof of English Proficiency like TOEFL and IELTS
• CV
• Statement of Purpose
• Proposal

3) Applying For Admission

After preparing required documents, you are ready for applying. In general, there isn’t special admission deadline for Iranian universities. It means you can apply for these universities at any time, but based on the applying time, they will admit you for the possible semester. Then, you must apply in a suitable time to start the study in your desirable semester.

Submitting application can be done by different ways. Some universities ask students to submit their documents via online application forms, some universities via email and others receive documents in person. 

Since the admission process is time consuming, please be careful in submitting correct information and all documents, because correcting this information and submitting missed documents at the next steps takes lots of time and maybe you miss the opportunity to start the study in your favorite time.  

You can submit your application documents to university directly, however, please consider that after applying, lots of procedures at the university, Iran’s Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, Iran’s Ministry of Health and Medical Education, Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and sometimes your country’s embassy in Iran are required. 4) Tracking Your Application and Admission

We follow up your application until taking admission for you. Usually, universities have an admission committee including faculty and deans of schools and hold several sessions to reviews applicants’ documents and decide about admission. Anytime that the committee needs new information and documents, they contact us and we facilitate receiving these information and documents to them by communicating with you. Also, sometimes professors ask interview with applicant before admission. We communicate with you and admission committee to schedule a time for interview.

If the admission committee decides to admit you, the university provide you an admission letter that called “Early Admission”. To take final admission, several procedures at the university, Iran’s Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, Iran’s Ministry of Health and Medical Education, Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and sometimes your country’s embassy is required. We follow all these procedures by your helps until receiving final admission and provide you information in whole process.

5) Applying for Student Visa

All foreign students in Iran need Student Visa. Only when you are admitted and have an admission letter, you can apply for Student Visa. If we have applied for you, we have all required information and documents to follow visa for you. We communicate with the university and follow to take Student Visa for you. It is possible to take Student Visa only outside of Iran and you can select Iran’s embassy or consulate in any country to take your visa. When the visa is issued, we give you an electronic document and you will take the visa in selected embassy or consulate. On average, it takes up to 20 days for educational visa application to be processed.

6) Booking Accommodation and Travel

There are dorms for single students in most of universities in Iran. Also, some universities provide little apartments for married students that come Iran with their family. All these dorms are highly affordable and we recommend you to reside in these dorms and apartments, especially in the first semester. If you are interested and there are accommodation in the university that you are admitted, we book for you before coming to Iran and you go to your dorm or apartment directly when you reach Iran. Also, we accompany you when you reach Iran from the airport and arrange everything in Iran for you.

 7) Learning Farsi Language

Your success at the university highly depends on your skills in Farsi (Persian) language, even if your program is in English language. Although there are study in English in some universities, however, all international students in Iran must learn Farsi. Usually, master students first participate in Farsi language courses for 3 to 6 months and then start their academic courses, but PhD students can start Farsi language courses and academic courses simultaneously in the first semester. Universities have different policies and provide Farsi language courses in various places, some of them in their own universities and some of them in national centers. We register you in Farsi language courses and you can start them as you reach Iran.

8) Starting Your Study

The final step is to enroll at the university which you have been admitted and participate in courses. To enroll at your university course, you need to personally appear at the administration office of your university and submit the following documents:

Your Valid Passport

A Passport Photo

Your Visa or Residence Permit

Completed and Signed Application Form

Original Degree Qualifications

The Letter of Admission

The Payment Fee Receipt

After enrolment, the university gives you ID card which can later be used for residence permit application and attendance of your classes.
